From this piece of work that is in this passage it gives a feel of a WOW feeling....
I like the part when Takaki introduced his passage with the president calling him to help write a national dialogue on race beyond the black/white binary. I thought that I it was quite interesting grabbing my attention and making me want to read the whole passage. The way how the author cracked a joke to the president and it was able to end very well. When he had mentioned the the president would be recognized in California as a minority, I have not pay exact attention to it until now.
In his reading he gives out a lot of Americans that are minorities and shows from the past how almost everything came to be with so much diversity everywhere. As of saying Americans are separate, unequal, and isolated which most of them are. Then he gives an example from a novel Moby-Dick, the crew of Pequod the represented race and cu lure of the world. Like the captain of the deck, Captain Ahab and his people were all whites and below the deck there were other people as Ishamel, Africans, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, and etc. (which had diff. terms back then).
It seems as if not just the 21st century had just not noticed cultural and diversity now but it was also known back in the history dates.
King of golf Tiger Woods is known as a mix of different race, little part black is all black. When someone wants their voice to be heard no one listens, they have tried to explain all of reasons. It is mentioned that He is from two background, his father African American and his mother is Thai he is proud to be a part of two sides. Thus meaning America is becoming not just one race but continuing to build as more than one coming from different places.
Towards the ending of the paragraph it had always been something that I had always thought of at the ending of my junior year of high school that of "Let America be America again... Let American be the dream the dreamers dreamed... [where] equality is in the air we breathe." (15) The American Dream of the citizens of the United States can be from any person whether its a different race than an others people have heard of.
