The main idea of these two articles are about how higher education is needed in society and in another way society itself needs higher education. As I started to read these two articles it was very similar to the Bok articles that I had just read. There are so many information from these two articles that I happen to question myself if I really know what a higher education is. Well in my opinion I think in both ways higher education is needed and sometimes it isn't needed. Like wise the examples were given in Pierce's reading training a person with all sorts of skills society does need those people but sometimes people learn it their own way with out having education. I can relate to that because my father he did graduate from high school but his English wasn't that great but he was a person who learned well and tried his best at his work place. I mean there are a lot of people out there who doesn't need to have a higher education just to get a high-pay job maybe it's their hard work that they had put in.
In my opinion I agree with Atwell, about higher education being the communication pf basic set of values and the rest of his listings. Those list that he had put do connect to an education just like if there is a course that I am taking and I hate it the most, I have to accept that fact that I have to take it sooner or later I can't really do anything about it, but at the same time I have to understand at least what is being taught and go on about loving to learn. If I remember clearly I was told in high school that when I attend to college I will have to be independent and be social, since I was never that type of person who liked to be independent I always liked to have someone with me, but it changed as the year had went by. You go to events that you are interested even if one of your friends aren't interest and leaves you behind. So why not be independent and go by myself and socialize to my interest. As I started to attend Sac State I think my socializing has changed and I have a little bit more courage to speak out and engage with other students. Just like what he had said about activities engaged on universities, I think Full Circle Project had academic leaders and faculty members who had guided Freshmen and make them break out of their shell.
Overall these two reading had me do a lot of thinking about if I had gone to those stages or are beginning to take those steps to a higher education. I think I am actually taking these articles seriously to the point where it gets really interesting paragraph after paragraph because I think i will be taking those 6 goals that Pierce was mentioning and the three main points of Atwell about having a higher education in society.
Well here are my thoughts... I don't know if I'm on the right track but... Thanks for reading! =)
